ABOUT

Hi, I'm Lisa.  I am the woman behind Flatlands Metal.  I began my journey in silversmithing in 2017 but have been designing and making jewelry for nearly 30 years.  I am primarily self-taught;  watching videos, reading as much material on all things silversmithing as I could get my hands on and taking a few classes from @reneefordmetals and @rosyrevolver.  At the beginning of my silversmithing journey , I wasn't sure if I could actually learn, let alone do what was required to be a silversmith. But the moment I lit the torch, I was hooked, like a dog with a bone.  Through continued practice and dedication, I have found a true connection to this art form.

I am inspired by the colors of nature and seasonal themes. My style is traditionally simple and focused on natural gemstones.  I love to work with agate, jasper, turquoise and semi-precious stones.  The gemstones I use are ethically sourced and curated as carefully as possible.  To capture a stone's natural beauty, I intentionally design the surrounding silver work to let the stone speak for itself.  I am absolutely enamored with the art of silversmithing and strive to create high quality craftsmanship. One could spend their whole life learning every facet of this art form, honing skills and developing a personal voice. And I'm here for all of it!

Nature meets you where you are, allows you to take in tiny details and can leave you with a sense of wonder. My hope is that my jewelry will remind you to celebrate quiet moments and how special it truly is to be alive.
On a personal note: I live in Illinois, the flat lands, with my husband of 32 years and my trusty feline, Eddy.
